5 Reasons to make the new downtown Hy-Vee Market Grill your next stop

New to the downtown scene, Hy-Vee Market Grill on Fourth and Court definitely lives up the hype.

Having never visited any of the other Hy-Vee Market Grills in the area, I was skeptical that a restaurant located in a grocery store could rival the experience of some of my other favorite Des Moines spots. Boy, was I wrong.

Here are five ways Hy-Vee Market Grill on Fourth and Court left me totally impressed.

The Food

First off, the menu has a ton of really delicious sounding options. With everything from wings to seafood and sushi to burgers, you’re bound to find something to satisfy your cravings.

“Everything is really delicious, but my favorites are definitely the Mac-n-Cheese Burger and the Bacon, Jalapeno and Maple Wontons,” Fourth and Court waiter Adam Scheurenbrand explained.

I started the meal off with the bruschetta. With thick-cut fresh mozzarella and the perfect light Balsamic reduction, I was extremely pleased.

While tempted to try out the whole menu, we decided on the Hy-waiian Burger (a soy sauced-glazed burger topped with mango-pineapple salsa and candied bacon), the Mac-n-Cheese Burger (an open face burger buried in white cheddar macaroni), and the Spinach Artichoke Flatbread Pizza. Flavorful and excellently prepared, I had no complaints here.

Finishing off the meal, Hy-Vee Market Grill offers Cheesecake Factory desserts – if you have any room left!

The Drinks

If you’re 21+ the bar at Hy-Vee Market Grill won’t leave you disappointed. I’d recommend one if their deliciously fresh mojitos or margaritas.

Looking to save a few bucks too? Check out the happy hour menu:

  • $2 draft beers
  • $3 craft beer bottles
  • $4 mixed drinks
  • $5 glasses of wine

The Atmosphere

Hy-Vee Market Grill found that perfect balance of classy and casual. Classy enough that it still feels like a special date night treat, but still casual enough that you can stop for a bite to eat after grocery shopping on a laid back evening.

The outdoor patio is a great bonus when the weather warms up enough for outdoor dining too.

The Grocery Store

Though I’m new to this grocery store/restaurant combo, the convenience is perfect. Nothing is worse than spending an hour zipping through the aisles of the grocery store and then having to cook dinner once you get home too. Whether you’re buying a cartful or just picking up a few last minute things, having a restaurant attached to the store is helpful.

Really needing to speed up the process? Place a to-go order at the grill, zip through the store, and pick up your meal on the way out!

The Ease

Driving up and down streets desperately searching for parking is a thing of the past with the parking garage conveniently connected to the grocery store and restaurant. Not to mention you avoid the snow and rain when the Iowa weather is less than perfect too.

Plus, parking is free! It doesn’t get easier than that.

Amazing food and an overall great experience will be sending me back to the downtown Hy-Vee Market Grill sometime soon. But don’t just take my word for it, go check out the HyVee on Fourth and Court yourself!
