Southern comfort at it’s finest. Bubba is on the higher end of dining here in Des Moines but making their happy hour something to pay attention to. The menu consists on anything and everything you’d find at a restaurant in the southern portion of the US. Not in the mood for southern cuisine? No worries, they have a cheese plate that is heaven and the best part? It’s only $5 during happy hour.

“My family is originally from the South and this is my favorite cuisine,” Chris Diebel, Owner of Bubba said. “This is something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Bubba has a corner spot downtown and has a home-like atmosphere complete with couches, comfy chairs and coffee tables so you can be comfy while enjoying your southern comfort food.

MALO

Since opening in 2014, MALO has been a staple in the Des Moines community. Describing themselves as having Havana cocktails to inventive Mexican dishes, MALO celebrates all the flavors of Latin America the cuisine at MALO is unlike anything else Des Moines has to offer. Because the apps and tacos are half off, start with the queso or guac (they have a smaller version of the one listed on the menu and it’s only $2) and finish with a few tacos. During happy hour, the tacos range from $2.25 to $3.50 so feel free to treat yourself without hurting the bank account.

Eatery A

Deal: ½ off wine, beer and wood-fired pizzas

With a casual yet upscale feel, Eatery A has become one of the most visited restaurants by Des Moines residents. Not quite downtown, the Ingersoll restaurant opened in 2014 and is the go-to place for their Mediterranean inspired foods accompanied with wine. They offer a wide variety of wines and beers that would pair nicely with anything on the menu.

Fong’s

Happy Hour Time: 3pm-6pm Monday-Friday

Deal: Purchase a drink and get a free slice of pizza (Monday – Friday, 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.). Fifty cents off bottled beer, tikis and well drinks. $2.75 off drafts and $9 off pitchers of Kirin and Bud Light.
