Des Moines isn’t exactly known for having a nightlife. Well times are a-changing and us Iowans are in for a late night sweet treat.

A late night cupcake lounge is exactly what Des Moines needed back in 2010 and that is exactly what we got. Creme Cupcakes + Desserts is a different kind of cupcakery. Its late night hours allow for post-dinner patrons to visit and relax in the lounge atmosphere and sip on something a little stronger than soda.
Each evening, Creme transforms the brightly lit dining area to a low-lights cocktail bar. It has cupcakes on hand but also provide a late night menu that features new desserts paired with a cocktail, wine, coffee or tea.

Molly’s Cupcakes in the East Village brings you back to your school yard days. Named after a school teacher of the man who started the company back in Chicago, Molly was a third grade teacher and that would bring in cupcakes each time a child in her class had a birthday to celebrate.
Courtney Callahan, one of the two owners, loves that story.
“I was really excited to take on a new place and really show everybody what I fell in love with which was the store, the story and the people that work here,” Callahan said.
The school like atmosphere is complete with lockers, a chalkboard and swing like seats at the bar. Not only does Molly’s feel like a school, part of the proceeds goes to to schools.
Molly’s may be known for cupcakes but they are a full service bakery offering cakes, cheesecakes, pies, cookie, brownies and even an ice cream bar in the summer.
Everything at Molly’s, from the frosting to the cake, is made daily and they even offer gluten free, customizable and filled cupcakes. They also provide a sprinkle station and coffee bar that pairs nicely with the free wifi.
